Welcome to University Prep Art & Design High School, a dynamic learning environment located in Detroit’s Cultural District! We are proud to introduce Lauryn Smith as our new Principal. With a strong background in educational leadership and a deep commitment to both academic and artistic excellence, she is dedicated to preparing scholars for success in both college and career.
About Principal Lauryn Hood-Smith
Lauryn Hood-Smith brings a wealth of knowledge and passion for education to University Prep Art & Design High School. She has served as a teacher, teacher leader, instructional coach, director of achievement, and administrator in both Detroit, Michigan and Jacksonville, Florida. Her work has spanned all grade levels, from Kindergarten through 12th grade, giving her unique insight into the full journey of a scholar.
Principal Smith earned her bachelor’s degree in Finance from the University of Pittsburgh and a master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Barry University in Miami. Her training through Teach For America, Teach Michigan, and Relay GSE has shaped her into a collaborative, student-centered instructional leader
